Ambarish Mitra led Blippar, a visual discovery application, today announced the beta launch of Halos, redesigning its visual search app with a focus on Augmented Reality (AR) face profiles and bringing the technology of facial recognition into the mainstream. The application allows a deeper look of the world by integrating facial recognition into the application. It is one of the fastest face recognition engines, unlocking unique augmented reality experience with over 99.67% accuracy. It enables users to scan faces with the help of smartphone cameras to unravel high definition pictures and experience the reality.

This new application offers some unique features which include creating and customizing personal AR face profiles and connecting with other users by “blipping” (scanning) their face. The facial profile can be scanned either in person, printed images or through television. The users of ‘Halos’ will have complete control over their AR Face Profile and content.

Founded by Ambarish Mitra, Blippar first introduced its real-time facial recognition tech in December 2016, which was capable of recognizing 70,000 public figures. At present, the application can recognize 370,000 public figures, which is the largest such repertoire in the world.

The companies who seek to license and integrate the technology into their products and/or applications, from mobile banking transactions to smart networking and building access control, should request for Blippar’s Facial Recognition APIs.

The AR face profiles feature is a testament to the company’s focus on Augmented Reality and Computer Vision technology, which are aimed at changing the way people interact with the world. It also helps users to access information, facts, and figures more quickly, giving them an entirely new perspective at information consumption.

Ambarish Mitra, Co-founder & CEO at Blippar, commented on the launch: “Face is one of the most unique and expressive forms of communication. Our new in-app feature, Halos, the AR face profiles, changes the face into digital format for the very first time, providing an innovative and dynamic way of expressing ourselves and discovering the world around us. This new technology also lends itself to many other forms of implementation, and we are happy to share our APIs and technology with other companies who wish to encourage innovation in their own industries.”
