Movies That Gave A Thrilling Glimpse Into Dacoits

When one thinks of Dacoits or movies based on Dacoits, the first thing that hits your mind is Gabbar Singh. Though Sholay was a great movie, over the years, Bollywood has made multiple movies that showcase the life of these armed robbers. Most of the movies on dacoits are based on real-life personalities. When we heard that one of the recent movie based on dacoits, Sonchiriya is going to hit ZEE5, we thought why not make a list of movies that gave us a thrilling glimpse into the life of these reckless robbers. Sonchiriya: Though the concept of dacoit has been in Bollywood for several years now, this 2019 movie’s take on dacoits makes up for a perfect weekend watch. What could have just been another movie based on dacoits, ended up becoming a hit due to the director Abhishek Chaubey’s slow yet exciting take on these armed robbers. Sonchiriya was critically acclaimed and some even called it a riveting watch. One of the selling points of this movie was a performance by the lead actors, especially Sushant Singh. Sholay: This movie is a classic hit, and it is ought to be on this list. This 1975 movie revolves around the life of two criminals, Veeru and Jai who are hired by a police officer to capture the dacoit Gabbar Singh who killed his family. The movie also houses some great actors like Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar and Hema Malini. For a movie that was released almost 43 years back, it still makes up for a perfect watch with your friends. Though the movie has a great ending, did you know that the Ramesh Sippy had to change the climax of the movie to the censor board?

Bandit Queen: This 1994 biopic film is based on the life of Phoolan Devi, one of the controversial women of India. The movie sheds light on how from a girl who got married at a very young age to the women who became a member of Parliament. This movie is based on Mala Sen’s book, India’s Bandit Queen: The True Story of Phoolan Devi. Though the movie was slow, it still managed to won people heart. The movie went on to win multiple awards along the way.

Paan Singh Tomar: No batting an eyelid when they came to know that the acclaimed actor Irfan Khan would be playing as a Dacoit in his next movie. The movie narrates the tale of Paan Singh Tomar, a seven-time national champion athlete who after retiring from the army became a decoit. The fact that he was able to pull off such an intense role without breaking any sweat shows how great of an actor he is. This 2012 movie got thumbs up from the critics, some even calling the movie one of the best accurate biopics ever made in Bollywood.

Their life is not as easy as it sounds and it takes a whole lot of efforts to capture and deliver it on the big screen.
