Is Sweden the ‘rape capital of the world’? Here is an excellent reply by Swedish man
The proper question should be “Does Sweden have one of the highest number of rapes in the the world PER CAPITA?” In other words, the number of rapes per head of population, as comparing absolute numbers of rapes between countries with vastly different sized populations would be meaningless. (One of the replies below tries to make this argument.)
The answer to the question in terms of rapes per head of population is yes, Sweden does, and while this information is not published much by mainstream media because it is so politically sensitive, it has been widely reported in publications likes FrontPage (January 29th 2013). “Sweden now has the second highest number of rapes in the world, after South Africa, which at 53.2 per 100,000 is six times higher than the United States”
In absolute terms the Guardian reported in January 2016 ” The raw figures suggest a huge rise in reports, from 1,707 in 1995 to 6,697 in 2014″ In fact going further back in the past to 1975 the total number of reported rapes was just 421.
That is a 1490% increase from 1975 to 2014, and the population increased by just 19%.
So, what caused the massive increase in rape in probably the most progressive liberal country in the world where respect for women is so revered? Canada’s Globe & Mail (Equivalent to UK’s The Times and similarly considered a newspaper of record) in an article entitle “Sweden’s ugly immigration problem” published 11 Sep 2015 wrote “Sweden takes in more refugees per capita than any other European country, and immigrants – mainly from the Middle East and Africa – now make up about 16 per cent of the population.”
There was a massive increase in immigration and especially immigration of refugees and from countries in the Middle East or north Africa (MENA) from countries where women are hidden away and when they do go out are normally covered head to foot in black coverings to prevent them from being seen, even enforced by the brutal religious police in some of those countries. This culture considers women wearing short skirts, tight trousers, tops revealing shoulders as women of easy virtue (to put it most diplomatically). Even wearing perfume is considered so. Many men from such countries have limited respect for such women and especially if they are non-believers.
The liberal press such as the BBC and the Guardian try to argue that there are other factors to explain the 1490% increase in rapes in Sweden which occurred as MENA immigration to Sweden grew higher than any other country in the EU per head. Immigration from MENA countries is just a coincidence; after all, all men are potential rapists, and Swedish men rape too, they claim.
Why not check the Swedish Police statistics for reported rapes and rape convictions, I hear you ask? The answer to that is that Sweden introduced a new law to make it a criminal offence to publish crime statistics by ethnicity. However, before the law came into effect the last such statistics were reported and the following was mentioned in a article in the Times about the Cologne mass rapes and sexual assaults on New Years Eve: “Let’s be honest about these immigrant attacks” published 8 Jan 2016:
“A 2002 survey by Karlstad University found that 85 per cent of those sentenced to at least two years in prison for rape were foreign born or second-generation immigrants. And as long ago as 1996 a report by the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention concluded that immigrants from north Africa were 23 times as likely to commit rape as Swedish men.“
Returning to the UK liberal press such as the BBC and the Guardian; they claim there are other reasons why the incidence of rape has increased. Now remember the increase has not been 20% or 40% or even 100%, or even 300%. No, it has been a mind boggling 1490%. Bear that in mind when you consider the likelihood of the following factors they suggest as being a likely cause, even considered in unison.
- The definition of rape has widened in Sweden. You’ll note they rarely explain in what way the definition has been widened, because these are subtle changes that would be most unlikely to result in even a small increase in reported rapes, in large part because people’s understanding of rape does not change with a change in the law – it stays the same. There have been changes in the definition of rape in many other countries, but it is rarely used to explain away an enormous increase in rapes. The UK saw a widening of the definition of rape with the 2003 Sexual Offences Act.
- “the [Swedish] police have improved the handling of rape cases in an effort to increase the number of crimes reported”, Yes, and so has every other developed country in the world, and some of the less developed.
- “In Sweden, the police record each incidence of sexual violence separately, thereby inflating the reporting” Fine, but if this is a relevant point, which can account for the massive increase, then it would not be beyond the wit of man to quantify this effect. Odd that it is only ever discussed in vague broad brush
None of this can explain why official Swedish statistics on rape by ethnicity, before such statistics were made a criminal offence by the Swedish government, showed that immigrants in Sweden from north Africa were 23 times more likely to commit rapethan Swedish men. In fact, I find it quite disturbing that UK tax payer funded institutions such as the BBC would grasp at straws trying to deny what is obvious to everyone and his dog. Sadly, some people read such articles and believe them and disseminate them on social media.
Note: The number of reported rapes in England & Wales was 24,023 (ONS data reported in the Guardian 22 Jan 2015 ) The 85,000 stated by another contributor is reported rapes multiplied by an estimated factor as a guess for the total number of rapes, and is not reported rapes. This is a common mistake.
